Deeds Swashbucklers spend panache points to accomplish deeds. Most deeds grant the swashbuckler a momentary bonus or effect, but some provide longer-lasting effects. Some deeds remain in effect while the swashbuckler has at least 1 panache point, but do not require expending panache to be maintained. A swashbuckler can only perform deeds of her level or lower. Unless otherwise noted, a deed can be performed multiple successive times, as long as the swashbuckler has or spends the required number of panache points to perform the deed.

Derring-Do (Ex) At 1st level, a swashbuckler can spend 1 panache point when she makes an Acrobatics, Climb, Escape Artist, Fly, Ride, or Swim check to roll 1d6 and add the result to the check. She can do this after she makes the check but before the result is revealed. If the result of the d6 roll is a natural 6, she rolls another 1d6 and adds it to the check. She can continue to do this as long as she rolls natural 6s, up to 3 times.

Dodging Panache (Ex) At 1st level, when an opponent attempts a melee attack against the swashbuckler, the swashbuckler can as an immediate action spend 1 panache point to move 5 feet; doing so grants the swashbuckler a dodge bonus to AC equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 0) against the triggering attack. This movement doesn’t negate the attack, which is still resolved as if the swashbuckler had not moved from the original square. This movement is not a 5-foot step; it provokes attacks of opportunity from creatures other than the one who triggered this deed. The swashbuckler can only perform this deed while wearing light or no armor, and while carrying no heavier than a light load. This deed’s cost cannot be reduced by any ability or effect that reduces the number of panache points a deed costs.

Deeds The picaroon gains the following deeds, each of which replaces an existing deed.

Elf Blood (Ex) Half-elves count as both elves and humans for any effect related to race.

Elven Immunities (Ex) Half-elves are immune to magic sleep effects and get a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects.

Fencer You trained long hours as a youth with blades, either taking lessons in the genteel art of fencing from tutors paid for by your parents or by being taken under the wing of a disenfranchised fencer who may have turned to a life of crime. You gain a +1 trait bonus on attacks of opportunity made with daggers, swords, and similar bladed weapons.

Indomitable Faith You were born in a region where your faith was not popular, but you still have never abandoned it. Your constant struggle to maintain your own faith has bolstered your drive. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Will saves.

Integrated Many half-elves are skilled in the art of ingratiating themselves into a community as if they were natives. Half-elves with this racial trait gain a +1 bonus on Bluff, Disguise, and Knowledge (local) checks. This racial trait replaces the adaptability racial trait.

Low-Light Vision (Ex) You can see x2 as far as humans in low illumination. Characters with low-light vision have eyes that are so sensitive to light that they can see twice as far as normal in dim light. Low-Light Vision is color vision. A spellcaster with low-light vision can read a scroll as long as even the tiniest candle flame is next to her as a source of light. Characters with low-light vision can see outdoors on a moonlit night as well as they can during the day.

Melee Shooter (Ex) At 1st level, as a swift action when wielding both a light or one-handed piercing melee weapon and a one-handed firearm, the picaroon can spend 1 panache point to avoid provoking attacks of opportunity with the first ranged attack made by the one-handed firearm during her turn. This deed replaces opportune parry and riposte.

Multitalented (Ex) Half-elves choose two favored classes at first level and gain +1 hit point or +1 skill point whenever they take a level in either one of those classes.

Panache Unlike other swashbucklers, a picaroon regains panache when she confirms a critical hit or makes a killing blow with a light or one-handed piercing melee weapon or a one-handed firearm. This ability alters panache.

Two-Weapon Finesse (Ex) A picaroon gains the benefits of the Weapon Finesse feat with light or onehanded piercing melee weapons. She also gains the effects of the Two-Weapon Fighting feat as long as she is wielding a light or one-handed piercing melee weapon in one hand and one-handed firearm in the other hand. This ability counts as having both the Weapon Finesse and Two-Weapon Fighting feats for the purposes of meeting feat requirements. This ability replaces swashbuckler finesse.

Wary Many half-elves have spent their long lives moving from place to place, often driven out by the hostility of others. Such experiences have made them wary of others’ motivations. Half-elves with this trait gain a +1 racial bonus on Sense Motive and Bluff checks.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency Swashbucklers are proficient with simple and martial weapons, as well as light armor and bucklers.

Weapon Proficiency A picaroon gains proficiency with all simple weapons and martial weapons, as well as one-handed firearms. This replaces the swashbuckler’s weapon proficiency.


Reynard’s father Litea was an officer of some standing in the imperial navy who met his beautiful elf mother while in service and fell in love. Already having a wife at home and the conflicts of war caused Reynard to be born out of wedlock to add to the dangers of a Half-Elf life. Feeling great remorse Litea brought the babe Reynard abroad with him and home to the royal empire. However the war intervened again and he was forced to set off on another campaign, leaving his bastard son at home in the trust of a close friend and parliament member. Litea was killed in action while abroad and Reynard’s guardian was a victim of political intrigue. Left alone and shunned in an orphanage where his mixed race left him last for all Reynard vowed to set to the seas and seek out his mother in far lands. Sneaking away one night he stows aboard a trading ship at the age of 13 bound of parts unknown. Almost thrown overboard when discover he pledged his service to the shipmaster in return for his life and spend the next 8 years aboard ship with a rough crew learning much of the sea. Two years ago his master Lorio was imprisoned for smuggling but the crew was spared and his life debt forgiven by Lorio. Since then he has worked as a shiphand and sellsword wherever the winds led him. Joined up with Allied Shipping and captain Tulu of the Snakehead (lol drunken bet) powered by the Conch of Winds.
